Ok here is the game:
A single A4 envelope leaves Australia and gets posted to the next person on the list. That person upon receiving the envelope writes their name (real or their mail art handle) and location on the back of the envelope. Without removing any of the stamps each person in turn will replace their address with the next person on the list's address, add new postage and send it on.
The idea is to see how many times we can use one envelope to travel the globe. The hopeful result will be a well travelled envelope covered in stamps and cancellation marks from all over the place and maybe a few warnings from our friendly local post offices to “not reuse envelopes” on the back will be a record of where it has been and who has contributed.
Daniel Farrell and Richard Kegler from P22 started a similar project sending it between themselves, but my aim is to make it an international mail project.
It will run simply: I will send the envelope to the first person who signs up who will send it to the second person and so on. Once it has gone around a bit anyone who is still interested can put his or her name down again for another swing at it.
There is no limit to how many people can play…. Lets see how long we can keep it going (chain mail with a difference).
Inside the envelope will be a single sheet of paper with these instructions on it so if the envelope gets lost hopefully we will get it back. If it gets to you and you think there is no chance that you can post it on let the group know and we will brain storm a solution but the idea is to play with the postal service so try and be cunning.
I will keep a record of the envelopes progression on the thread so let me know when you have received it and when you have sent it on. When the event ends I will scan the front and back and e-mail everyone who contributed a high res jpeg so you can print out your own copy.
